POG Email Group

The People of God e-mail group provides an easy way for members of the group to send an email message to everyone in the People of God without having to know the individual email addresses of everyone in the community. The goal for the group is to provide ready email communication of prayer requests, testimonies and general information for the community at large.

The concept of group email lists is simple. Members of the People of God can join the email group by clicking on button below and entering their email address. When the submit button is clicked, a message will be sent to you to confirm that you are requesting membership. To accept, just reply to this message with no changes to the subject or content. The moderators of the group, currently Connie Maletta and Paul Kersting, will be sent an email requesting permission to add your address to the group list. This allows us to control the list so that it will not be misused. None of us want to get spurious emails from hackers whom we don't even know. This also provides security so that your email address doesn't get acquired by marketers, etc. who support spamming. Connie or Paul will grant permission after we confirm that the requester is indeed a legitimate member of the People of God or Sword of the Spirit

Once your email address is added to the list, you may send mail to the entire membership list simply by sendiing an email to pogpgh@yahoogroups.com. When your email is received by the list server, it will validate your return address by comparing it to the membership list, and if validated, your email will be automaticaly forwarded to all of the members. This means that you no longer have to maintain a long list of current email addresses in order to send a general communication. Everyone on the list will receive the message you send, including yourself so that you can confirm that it was sent. If anyone wants to reply to everyone in the group, they simply click on the reply button in their mail software, compose their message and then send it out. Another important note is that you don't have to have a yahoo email address to join the group.

When your email address changes, rather than having to notify everyone individually, a notice can be sent to the group so that everyone knows. It is also important that you submit your new email address to be added to the group list. Email addresses that are no longer active will be automatically removed from the list, so the list remains current.

Currently, a lot of people have been sending notes for general distribution to Connie, asking her to forward it. But the better way to handle this type of communication is to send a message directly to the pogpgh@yahoogroups.com list. This is easy, since the only address you have to remember is the group email address, pogpgh@yahoogroups.com . We are encouraging everyone in the community who would like to send and receive this type of general communication to join the group and use it. This is a service to everyone.

There has been some confusion about the process for sending group emails because Connie often is asked by the coordinators to send messages specific to schedule changes and urgent last minute type announcements, to her own personal group list, mainly because not all POG members have registered for the POG Yahoo list and she usually maintains a current list of all POG members who have email addresses & the coordinators want to get the message to the most people in the least amount of time. People who have received these messages have assumed that Connie is the designated conduit for ALL group emailing, and that is not so. She only conveys messages coming from the coordinators that they have agreed she should send & at times URGENT prayer needs that should go to the wider body.

Keep in mind.... If everyone in POG registered for the Yahoo groups list, this confusion would not exist."

Every effort has been made to make the use of the group both convenient and secure. As noted above, the fact that the group membership is limited prevents your email address from being misused.
