At the People of God Men's Retreat in November 2005, a young man stood up and gave this testimony of what God had done for him. After several year of serious substance abuse, including both alcohol and drugs, he came to the healing service. When Fr. Rea placed his hands upon his head, he experienced an intense feeling of peace and felt God's presence in a way he had never before experienced. He didn't want to leave the service, because he didn't want that experience to end. In the six weeks since then, he has been completely free of alcohol and drugs. The intense feeling had subsided, but the healing remained.
(In testimony to the power of God at work at the retreat, he also noted that the only other experience of God's presence that he had that was like he experienced at the healing service was that which he experienced on Saturday night at the retreat, when God called all of the men present to a deep repentence before the Lord.)
